Frisee

Frisee Lettuce is a  feathery, curly bitter salad leaf and is a member of the chicory family and also known as curly endive. The leaves range in colour from yellow-white to yellow-green. Mostly used in salads, served with a selection of other leaves and a well-flavoured dressing to counteract any bitterness. Frisée owes its name to its ruffled edged appearance. Frisée has a looser head than the common endive, with a yellow heart and very curly, heavily notched and thinner leaves. The leaves have a fine structure. Frisée is an excellent salad ingredient or garnish but is also delicious mixed through mashed potatoes.
